Ingesting toxic plants usually results in digestive upsets like vomiting and diarrhea but can also cause irritability, seizures, breathing or heart problems and even coma. You should be especially careful with insecticides, herbicides and pesticides which also may be toxic and followed by a non dog area rule for several days after use. Be careful too with ornamental shrubs and berry producing plants, dangerous to both pets and children. Mulch made from cocoa bean shells can be appealing to animals but toxic and cause vomiting, tremors, seizures and even death. Dogs who eat stones, dirt etc (pica) which cause gastritis or allergies should be vet checked.
